Now in its fourth-generation, the redesigned Mercedes-Benz GLE 53 is a four-door, five- or seven-passenger hatchback SUV. For instance, the Mercedes-Benz GLE 53 is powered by an AMG-enhanced 3.0L inline-6 turbo with hybrid assist. This hybrid/supercharger combination helps the 6-pot engine deliver 429 horsepower and 413 lb-ft to its AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system through an AMG SPEEDSHIF TCT 9-speed automatic transmission.
While not as powerful as the Mercedes-Benz GLE 63, it still boasts impressive 0-60 mph times of 4.9 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph.
But there's more: The Mercedes-Benz GLE 53 rides on the standard Adaptive Damping System (ADS Plus). With the optional AMG Dynamic Plus Package, buyers can take advantage of the best that AMG has to offer, including an AMG Active Ride Control with Roll Stabilization, AMG High-performance braking system with Red Calipers, AMG Track Pace, AMG Performance Steering wheel in Dinamica, and the AMG Drive Unit. With this last feature, changing the performance levels of your GLE 53 can easily occur by a simple turning of a tuning dial on your steering wheel.
A Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Exterior Look
Refreshed for this new fourth-generation, the Mercedes-Benz GLE 53 now boasts a newer, smoother, more aerodynamic look than before. Since it's an Mercedes-AMG, the traditional waterfall-style Panamericana grille grabs even more fresh air than ever before.
High-visibility LED head- and slim LED taillights set this new SUV off front and rear, which is now re-sculpted for added emphasis. Its wheelbase has been stretched a total of 3.2 inches for added legroom in the second and third row.
Finally, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 is offered in a standard square-roofed or fastback coupe design. It only matters how sporty you want to be: The fastback has less rear-seat head- and cargo room and no third-row seating option.
Standard aluminum roof rails and 20-inch Mercedes-AMG performance wheels set new levels of style on the GLE's outside.
A Look Inside The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53
With its impeccable fit and finish, you wouldn't think you are in a sports SUV. But the fact is, with the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53, it's "the best or nothing."
In this case, the best includes sport Multicontour front seats that are heated and ventilated, with available massaging front seats. The new audio system is operated by the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) module, which allows touchscreen access, a console-mounted controller or redundant controls on the steering wheel. And if that's not enough control, take over and say, "Hey Mercedes," and treat it like any other electronic personal assistant. The Mercedes-Benz GLE 53 is also equipped with in-car Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The interior is a sea of tranquility with a sense of solitude until you decide to stomp on the Loud pedal. Once you do, though, you'll be greeted by a throaty rasp that causes the hair on your neck to stand on end. And that is not necessarily a bad thing. It's the only thing in this vehicle that sounds better than the high-end Burmester Surround Sound premium audio system. The standard (non-coupe) version of the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 provides 33.3 cubic feet behind the rear seat, which expands to 74.9 cubic feet when the seat is folded forward.
A 64-color LED ambient lighting system with lighted door sills is standard. Around the dash, console and doors, various available wood trims ranging from Ash, Linden, Walnut and Grey Oak offer options to those who like their nature inside, too.
