What is the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300?

The Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 continues with its luxury bona fides like few other vehicles on the road today. Considered a small luxury SUV, the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 can be outfitted as luxuriously as you desire. It is available in rear-wheel-drive, all-wheel-drive (4MATIC) and plug-in hybrid (Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e) versions. For others, there is the Mercedes-AMG lineup of Mercedes-Benz GLC vehicles and the fastback Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe.

A five-passenger, four-door with hatchback design, the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 is available with a choice of 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder with a mild hybrid drive making 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Those looking for a bit more power and the ability to go green(er) may select Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e with its 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with an 85-kW hybrid-electric motor producing 313 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. This engine of the Mercedes-Benz has an electric-only range of 58 miles.

Both engines are mated to a Mercedes-Benz 9-speed automatic transmission.

A Look Around the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300

Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 has undergone a refresh that has smartened up the face with a more aggressive grille and bumper covers. New LED headlights are now standard and are joined in the rear by LED taillamps.

There's no getting around it. A brief walk around the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 confirms that this compact luxury SUV looks good from every angle. And this is a look that can truly be enhanced by adding custom alloy wheels ranging from 18- to 20 inches, sport brake packages, Mercedes-AMG kits and other items, including gloss black exterior trim pieces and Mercedes-AMG alloy sport wheels.

What About the Inside?

Designed as one of the best interiors in the segment, the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 is both inviting and elegant. Playful as well; It can be as formal or as downmarket as you desire. Choose from MB-Tex or luxury Nappa leather seating, aluminum or wood trim with instrument panel inserts, and cloth or Alcantara headliner. The choice lies with you.

Base Mercedes-Benz models include a 14-way power-adjustable driver's seat, an infotainment system with a 11.9-inch screen and a touchpad that allows you to draw letters rather than type your destination for the navigation system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are on-board as well, as is the dual-zone climate controls.

But what if you want to go further? The Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 can take you there. Personalize your Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 with the Mercedes-AMG line of sport line accessories. A power liftgate takes your hands out of the equation. The now standard multimedia package with MBUX ("Hey Mercedes!") offers augmented video for navigation that takes finding your way to a new level. Upgrade to the 15-speaker Burmester Audio System and a 12.3-inch instrument display. Once you have experienced Carnegie Hall on wheels, you may decide never to leave your GLC 300.

Safety Always

Safety is always at the forefront with Mercedes-Benz. Even the base Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 includes Forward-collision mitigation, which reads the road ahead of you and alerts you to any potential mishaps. Here are a few other important safety features on the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300:

  • PRESAFE: The system detects a potential collision and pre-tightens seatbelts, adjust headrests and close the windows and the sunroof to prevent injuries.
  • Attention Assist: The system looks for up to 70 parameters and alerts you if it thinks you are becoming drowsy.
  • PRESAFE Sound: Working in conjunction with PRESAFE, the system emits pink noise as a collision is detected. The so-called "pink noise" helps prevent injury to the occupant's hearing in case of a shunt.

Other features include the ability to maintain vehicle stability. Crosswind Assist works together with the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) to sense strong crosswinds as felt on major highways. The system applies course-corrective braking to help assist with your forward motion. We have experienced Crosswind Assist in Mercedes-Benz demonstrations, where our vehicle was subjected to crosswinds of up to 50 miles per hour. Through tiny brake adjustments that occur so quickly that you can't even feel them, the vehicle was able to correct itself without making any of the occupants aware of the system being activated.

Braking is another field where the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 shines. With Mercedes-Benz Brake Assist, the vehicle detects emergency braking and applies the maximum amount of braking pressure. There are other aspects to braking assist as well:

  • Predictive Brake Priming: "Preloads" the brakes with pressure to prepare for maximum stopping power as needed.
  • Automatic Brake Drying: Dries moisture buildup on brake rotors to ensure maximum braking power.
  • Hill Start Assist: Applies braking to hold a vehicle while on an incline at a stoplight.
  • Brake Hold: Apply the brake, then remove your foot while at a stoplight. The brake will still be applied.

With safety features like these on board, it is clear to see the Mercedes-Benz motto of "The Best or Nothing" is not mere talk. They design their vehicles to be some of the safest and luxurious motor cars available anywhere. Consider these Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 safety components as you would an insurance policy. You hope you never need to use them, but it's always comforting to know they are there.
