What's the difference between the Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 and the GLE 450?
The Mercedes-Benz GLE is a four-door, five- or seven-passenger sport utility vehicle. Classified as a midsize vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz GLE offers a choice of several engines under the hood. The Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 is powered by a 2.0L inline-4 turbo with mild hybrid drive engine that produces 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This engine is an award-winner and provides ample power for most situations and conditions. It is matched to a 9-speed automatic transmission with your choice of rear or 4MATIC all-wheel-drive.
The new Mercedes-Benz GLE features a longer wheelbase, which offers the benefit of increased second-row legroom and the opportunity to install a third-row bench seat.
There is another more powerful engine available when ordering the Mercedes-Benz GLE class SUV. Powered by a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine, it is known as the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450. The Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 is powered by an engine that is a pretty trick technologically. And here's the best part: The straight-six engine is an intercooled turbocharged gas/electric hybrid powerplant that produces 375 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The best part: This electric supercharger offers an EQ boost that is good for delivering an additional 21 horsepower for on-demand power as needed.
How Do They Ride?
The base Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 rides on a traditional double-wishbone front suspension and a multilink rear suspension kit. Buyers can step up to an available AIRMATIC suspension, which smooths the ride out considerably.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 includes full-time 4MATIC all-wheel-drive and optional AIRMATIC gas-pressurized air shocks for further compliance and handling. But the best of the bunch is the new E-Active Body Control. This system offers on-the-fly adjustability of the wheel's springs and dampers. A very trick feature: it can even bounce the vehicle if you find yourself stuck in sand. The E-ABC system also does its part to eliminate body roll while going through the sweepers, stabilizing the chassis in a way that conventional suspensions are not yet able to mimic.
A Look at the Mercedes-Benz GLE
Inside the Mercedes-Benz GLE 350
Swankier than the ML-Class, the new Mercedes-Benz GLE is all that and more. Starting with the seats, these thrones can be enhanced with the Warmth and Comfort package, which heats everything inside, including the armrests and door panels. Let your wallet go wild and order the Comfort and Fragrance system with fragrance atomizer, front-seat ventilation, and massage functions. There's nothing else like it!
The controls inside the Mercedes-Benz GLE are centered around a side-by-side arrangement of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch center console display. The result is almost 25 inches of uninterrupted screens that appear like a modern jet aircraft's glass cockpit. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also along for the ride.
The Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) is standard on the Mercedes-Benz GLE. A much more stable interface, the new control is a touchpad that operates everything from Audio, Navigation, Car and Communications settings. There are even redundant controls on the steering wheel, so you won't need to remove your hands to complete a task.
Our favorite new item inside is the "Hey Mercedes" feature that offers controls of the Burmester premium audio system, navigation, cellular connectivity and more. Just say, "Hey Mercedes," and your Mercedes-Benz GLE comes alive. When it responds, ask for directions, find a gas station, initiate a call, or even change the radio channel without touching a screen or dial.
