What is Mercedes-Benz GLS 450?
The Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 is a six- or seven-passenger luxury Sport Utility Vehicle that may not be as large as the Cadillac Escalade or the Lincoln Navigator. However, it is still considered the model all other three-row luxury SUVs are measured by.
What Moves It?
Mercedes-Benz award-winning 3.0-liter turbocharged inline 6-cylinder is where the Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 gets its motivation. This powerful straight-six produces 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque for towing trailer loads of up to 7,700 pounds. Additionally, this engine includes the Mercedes-Benz EQ Boost mild-hybrid system.
A 48-volt electrified system with an integrated starter-generator for efficient operations from otherwise power-sapping components such as the air-conditioning compressor and the water pump.
But carry this system a bit further: It operates like a Formula 1 race car's kinetic energy recovery system (KERS), providing a jolt of power when needed. During short bursts, the system can provide 21 additional horsepower and a boost of 184 lb-ft of torque.
Power hits the pavement through the Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. It is sent there by the Mercedes-Benz nine-speed automatic transmission that is one of the most efficient and well-sorted units on the road today. It finishes with an auto start/stop system that shuts down the engine when it is idling. It can also be disabled if needed.
In case 362 ponies are not enough, the 483 horsepower Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 is always available. And if that won't fill the bill, you can always take advantage of the 603 horsepower Mercedes-AMG GLS 63. The best or nothing, as Mercedes-Benz always says.
Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 Exterior Features

Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 has grown approximately three inches. It's not battleship-huge at 205 inches front to rear, but it is pretty substantial in overall length. Don't worry, though, because at 203 inches overall, it will still fit in most average-sized home garages.
As for looks, let's call Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 evolutionary. While not straying too far from the previous generation's design, the new Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 features softer, rounded edges, a refreshed front grille, and a larger choice of wheels.

The second row offers a choice of a three-passenger bench seat or the no-cost option of twin captain's chairs to avoid the cries of "Mom, he's touching me!" These same captain's chairs provide easy access to the third row, which seats two passengers. An available Executive rear seat package offers features like heating and cooling, as well as massage functionality. There's also wireless charging and a tablet to operate the multimedia system.
The driver will be surrounded by what is essentially a glass cockpit with two 12.3-inch displays from the cockpit area. The first, directly in front of the driver, is configurable in various styles that place smaller navigation, audio and cellular screens between the standard gauges, including tachometer and speedometer and fuel meter and water temperature gauges.
The Cargo space in the new Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 has also grown and now includes 17.4-cubic feet behind the third row. Fold those seats forward and the space grows to 48.7 cubic feet. Finally, fold both rows forward to reveal 84.7 cubic feet of space to haul your family's things.
Other features included in the Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 include a standard hands-free power tailgate, a stellar Burmester audio system, sunroof, remote start with the Mercedes me mobile app, dual-zone climate control, and nine USB-C ports located in the typical spots around the cabin. There's also power-folding third-row seating, air suspension and a surround-view camera.
Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 Safety Features
The Best or Nothing is the Mercedes-Benz motto, and with this array of safety features on-board, it's clear they are talking the talk and walking the walk. There are loads of worthwhile safety features available and many of them are part of various packages. Active Brake Assist is a system that warns if a frontal collision is likely. If it senses such, it can automatically apply the brakes to prevent or minimize a crash. The Blind Spot Monitoring system can save your day by alerting you if there are cars in your blind spot. Both items are standard on the Mercedes-Benz GLS 450.An investment that would be at the top of our list is the Driver's Assistance Plus package. It's a piece of kit consisting of active lane-keeping assist, active stop-and-go assist, adaptive cruise control and more, including the ability to resume speed after coming to a complete stop in traffic.Â
Think of these components like you would an insurance policy. You hope you never need to use them, but you have a sense of security knowing they are there.
